Search & Rescue Ops Intensify

Bandar Seri Begawan – Search and rescue operations intensified yesterday off Jerudong beach as firemen and marine police together with the Royal Brunei Air Force searched for another fishermen who went missing yesterday.

While the fate of two local fishermen who went missing off the Jerudong beach since last Sunday still hung in balance, another mishap happened yesterday involving two Indonesian fishermen.

An Indonesian national Agus, disappeared from sight after his boat capsized after being hit by rough waves yesterday morning. He had been on a fishing trip along with colleague Abdul Khaironani.

Agus who had been in Brunei for more than a year went missing when his 23-foot boat capsized after being hit by rough waves at around 10.15am yesterday.

The incident occurred some 100 metres off Jerudong beach as the two were. returning to the coastline after a fishing trip.

The sea had been rough yesterday and they had taken shelter at a 'Kolam' near the beach before approaching the coastline where they had been told by their employer to get on the "right track" to avoid choppy

The two were thrown-out off their boat and Abdul Khaironani was luckily saved by friends, who had been coincidentally at hand, after a fishing trip.
