Doomsday E-Mail To Panic Public Warned

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Friday sermon today regarded leaflets and e-mail distributed describing the year 2005 as a chaotic year, as misleading as well as deviating from the true teachings of Islam and could disintegrate the Muslim Ummah.

Among the contents of the leaflets and e-mail is foretelling a chaotic situation as the result of various conflicts and the demise of the Saudi King. Also rumoured is about the sound of a frightening voice accompanied by a disaster from the sky befalling human beings.

The leaflets urge the Muslim ummah to prepare provisions, heating facilties, and gas for a year. Such a call is appropriate and not contrary to faith in Allah, the sermon warned.

But one must remember that calling people to do something without sound reasoning and responsibility can bring about negative leaflets to the country's stability, either in the areas of economy, politics or living as a community.

From the economic viewpoint, the act of hoarding and monopolising goods may take place because of the e-mail. This could bring an economic downturn and unrest to the nation.

The Friday sermon also stressed that what is claimed as the year of chaos is nothing more than sheer unfounded prediction and that the secret of the Islamic strength lies in two sources that is the Al-Quran and the Al-Sunnah.  -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
