Emergency Drill At Muara Port
By James Kon
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Emergency personnel from the Muara Fire Station and
Muara Health Clinic were called into action after two workers from BSM
Muara Terminal Depot were injured when a Liquefied Petroleum Gas tank
was punctured by a forklift while trying to load LPG cylinders to the
loading bay, yesterday morning.
The injured personnel was the
forklift driver who was seriously hurt due to the cold burns and metal
debris coming from the erupted prophane gas tank. Another personnel, a
manual handler, suffocated and fainted at the scene due to the leakage
of another cylinder gas.
This was the scenario of the latest
Emergency Drill conducted by Brunei Shell Marketing at the BSM Muara
LPG Central Store, which stores more than 18,000 Liquefied Petroleum
Gas cylinders.
Dubbed as `Exercise Belangkas', the
emergency exercise involved personnel from the Muara Fire Station, the
BSM Emergency Squad and the Muara Health Clinic.
Among the aims of the emergency drill
were to learn about the findings of the exercise and to improve on any
weaknesses as well as to test the emergency response of BSM in
communicating
with emergency personnel from the
fire station and health clinic while attending to the injured
personnel.
According to MdAdini Md Daini, BSM's
Head of LPG Business, the emergency drill was a success as both
injured personnel were safely escorted to the Muara Health Clinic for
treatment and the scene was efficiently contained.
For the safety of consumers who use
BSM's LPG cylinder for cooking, he advised the public to use the BSM's
hose and regulator for LPG cylinders. He explains that the hose acts
as a fire retardant while the regulator has an auto switch for safety.
