Police Warn: Be Careful While In
Sabah, Miri

Begawan – According to the Brunei police, the Sabah and Sarawak
authorities have established special units to monitor car thefts
activities involving Brunei cars.
The Royal Brunei Police Force has
reminded Bruneians wishing to go on holiday abroad to be extra
vigilant to avoid from becoming a victim of crimes. Police said there
have been criminal incidents such as car thefts experienced by
Bruneians while in Miri, Limbang and Kota Kinabalu while holidaying
there.
It has somewhat become a tradition
for some Bruneians to spend weekends or other public holidays visiting
relatives or shopping in Miri, Limbang and Kota Kinabalu.
The number of Brunei visitors going
to these neighbouring towns usually increase especially during long
public and school holidays. As such, the police said it is undeniable
that some Bruneians have had their cars stolen had other criminal acts
committed against them.
According to the Acting Head of
Public Relations of the Royal Brunei Police Force, Deputy Police
Superintendant, Pengiran Mohd Roslin bin Pg Haji Bakar, criminal acts
against Bruneians have been reported in neighbouring states and
published in newspapers.
Such crimes he said include car
thefts and handbags snatching as well as extortion.
In view of the situation, a number of
police officers have been sent to Sabah and Sarawak to inform them of
these activities especially on car thefts so that all parties
concerned can tackle such crime together.
Pengiran
Mohd Roslin said that agreement has been reached by all parties to
exchange information whereby each party would inform the other of any
crime such as car theft in their jurisdiction. Hence the necessary
action can be taken immediately. --
