Search, Rescue Operation For
Missing Fishermen Enters Third Day
By H. Bat
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A search and rescue operation entered its third day
yesterday and was carried out by the personnel of BSP, Royal Brunei
Navy and Royal Brunei Armed Forces, with the help of their boats and
helicopters as well as fellow fishermen, to trace two fishermen who
have gone missing since Sunday.
As of yesterday, at presstime, the
rescuers have not located the missing two, when they failed to return
onshore after going out for a fishing trip at Jerudong Beach.
Marine police said the operation is
still ongoing.
The two fishermen, Sophyan Hj Tamit
from. Kg Jerudong and Said Chuchu from Kg Subok, are both in their
30's.
According to a family member, the two
went out fishing at 7.15am, departing from Jerudong Beach's
fish-landing site using a boat measuring 28 feet with an 85-horse
power engine.
The family member said that at around
2.07pm on Sunday, a friend of the fisherman received a text message
saying that their boat capsized about 34kms from the coastline.
He then informed the Rescue Unit,
whereby at 3pm on Sunday, a search and rescue operation was launched.
However, according to one of the
rescuers when interviewed yesterday, they have not located the two
fishermen or their boat. They will still carry out the operation even
in the current rough sea conditions. --
