'Basmi 99' Checks On Foreign Workers In Belait

Bandar Seri Begawan – Foreign workers were questioned during an operation dubbed "Basmi 99" over the weekend at construction sites in Belait. Led by Chief Immigration Officer, Sulaiman Hj Hidup, 11 immigration enforcement officials carried out the task from around 9am in Sungai Liang, Kg Pandan and Seria.

A total of 97 foreigners, comprising Malaysians, Indonesians, Indians, Thais and Bangladeshis, were checked, 10 of whom were issued special passes after failing to show valid documents.

They were seven Indonesians, two Thais and an Indian national. Another seven, including five Bangladeshis and two Indonesians, were detained for possessing expired passes and no valid documents.
