RBAF Inaugurates 130th Holding
Platoon
By Grace Jiu
Bandar Seri
Begawan – The Royal Brunei Armed Forces expects nothing less
than a 100 per cent commitment from its troops in carrying out the
defence of our nation.
This was stated by Lt. Col. (U) Hamid
bin Nayan, Director of Training, Ministry of Defence and guest of
honour at inauguration of the 130'' recruitment of the Holding Platoon
of 143 potential male recruits, at the Berakas Garrison yesterday
morning.
Lt. Col. (U) Hamid advised the new
potential recruits that the opportunities for them to advance
themselves in their military career within the armed forces were vast,
and that they would have to work hard to grab those opportunities.
He firmly stressed that they should
not feel their relative academic status as an obstacle to reach great
heights in the Armed Forces, as progress would be greatly judged on
their performance in the Armed Forces.
"Hence, every recruit has the
opportunity to excel, despite his past relative academic
performances," said the Director of Training.
During his keynote address, Lt. Col.
(U) Hamid also urged parents and guardians to provide their continuous
moral support to the recruits "because the training process is going
to be very tough, whereby a civilian life will be transformed into a
heroic life during the rigorous and highly challenging training
period".
"Hence the parents play a highly
important role to help the child to continue and persevere during the
course of training, he said, adding that the training would be a
mammoth task for both the training institute and the recruits to
undergo.
Recruits in the armed forces are to
show 100 per cent commitment in their duties and would work 24 hours a
day as required, said Lt. Col. (U) Hamid.
He also brought to light the
importance of financial management of the new recruits, cautioning
that financial problems could potentially destroy one's career. He
also emphasised that their choice to join the Armed Forces was a good
one and that they needed to strengthen their enthusiasm in order to
excel.
Lt. Col. (U) Hamid further explained
that the new recruits could reach the status ofRegimental Sergeant
Major (RSM), a highly respected position whereby he is primarily
responsible for maintaining standards and discipline in the Armed
Forces.
The Holding Platoon of potential
permanent recruits will undergo a three-week training regime from
today onwards at the Recruit Company Training Institute, RBAF,
Penanjong Garrison in the Tutong District as an orientation programme
which is also a firsthand and trial experience for the six-month
training programme which will commence January 9 next year.
After successfully completing the
three-week training, the potential recruits will be qualified as
confirmed recruits.
The function saw the attendance of
the new potential male recruits, their parents and guardians, senior
officers and officers at the Pahlawan Hall, Berakas Garrison.
Prior to their departure to the
Recruit Company Training Institute, the new recruits attended a
briefing which was conducted by Capt. Kamrin bin Hj Damit, Commanding
Officer, Recruit Company Training Institute, RBAF, and Maj. Pg Said
bin Pg Hj Mahmud, Chairman of the event and Deputy Recruitment
Officer, RBAF.
The briefing touched on the training
schedule for the next three weeks, which would also serve as a period
in which every recruit's individual profile, health and fitness status
and salary, among others, would be documented. It was also revealed
that the new male recruits would be joined by a recruitment of officer
cadets at a later stage. --
