Certificates For New Village Heads
By Hj Mohd Nordin

Bandar Seri Begawan – The village headman plays an important role in leading his village especially in efforts to maintain peace, harmony, tranquility and prosperity.

The Acting Permanent Secretary at Ministry of Home Affairs said this on Sunday during a special ceremony to present a certificate of appointment to the village headman of Kampung Tanjong Bungar in Mukim Batu Apoi, Temburong District.

It is the responsibility of a village headman to observe the well being and welfare of his people under his leadership through consultations, he added.

Awang Janlita @ Janlita Anak Minggan, 48, has been appointed as Tanjung Bungar village head, where he is in charge of over 200 residents.

From March 1999 to 2004, he held the post of Ketua of Tanjung Bungar Longhouse.

In a separate ceremony at Kampung Batang Tuau, The Acting Permanent Secretary spoke of the effectiveness of the institutions of mukims and kampungs, which could be enhanced through the consultative councils in their respective vicinity.

He also advised penghulus and ketua kampungs to hold meetings and discussions to find ways and means in overcoming the problems faced by residents.

They too need to exchange ideas that would help smoothen the implementation of beneficial programmes for their villages. Awang Jainih @ Zaini bin Haj i Tahir, 54, was appointed as Batang Tuau village head on July 1, 2005.
