Certificates For New Village Heads

Begawan – The village headman plays an important role in
leading his village especially in efforts to maintain peace, harmony,
tranquility and prosperity.
The Acting Permanent Secretary at
Ministry of Home Affairs said this on Sunday during a special ceremony
to present a certificate of appointment to the village headman of
Kampung Tanjong Bungar in Mukim Batu Apoi, Temburong District.
It is the responsibility of a village
headman to observe the well being and welfare of his people under his
leadership through consultations, he added.
Awang
Janlita @ Janlita Anak Minggan, 48, has been appointed as Tanjung
Bungar village head, where he is in charge of over 200 residents.
From March 1999 to 2004, he held the
post of Ketua of Tanjung Bungar Longhouse.
In a separate ceremony at Kampung
Batang Tuau, The Acting Permanent Secretary spoke of the effectiveness
of the institutions of mukims and kampungs, which could be enhanced
through the consultative councils in their respective vicinity.
He also advised penghulus and ketua
kampungs to hold meetings and discussions to find ways and means in
overcoming the problems faced by residents.
They too need to exchange ideas that
would help smoothen the implementation of beneficial programmes for
their villages. Awang Jainih @ Zaini bin Haj i Tahir, 54, was
appointed as Batang Tuau village head on July 1, 2005.
The village has a population of 390
people. --
