By Liza Mohd

Kuala Belait - The B Command Brunei Fire Services recently held a briefing on guidelines of emergency fire plan for officers at the Belait District Telecommunications Department (JTB) with the objectives of educating them on safety and effective evacuation of occupants in the event of an emergency as well as to get occupants to react rationally when confronted with a fire or other emergencies in the premises.

The briefing held at the Belait JTB headquarters was presented by public relations officer of B Command Brunei Fire Services Mohd Tahabin Bakar.

The scope of the briefing included pre-fire drill actions, procedures for a fire drill or outbreak of fire, and a questionand-answer session.

Mohd 'l'aha noted that pre-fire drill actions included fire extinguishers, internal fire fighting team, sounding of alarm, frequency of a fire drill, evacuation routes and records of fire drills.

"It is also vital that fire fighting equipment are properly maintained and in serviceable condition," he said.

He added that "fire drills should be held at least once every six months to familiarise all occupants with the correct procedures to evacuate the premises in an orderly manner".

All premises, he said, should also display plans showing evacuation routes at several strategic locations.

Later, a fire extinguishing demonstration was held at the vicinity of the office which included an unexpected fire drill to test the evacuation skills of participants. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
