Roadblock Catches 12 Offenders In Belait
By Liza Mohd

Kuala Belait - Twelve traffic offenders were-caught yesterday morning in a roadblock operation conducted at Jalan Badas near the Lumut Seria bypass by 15 police personnel of the Belait patrol branch.

According to Acting Officer-In-Charge who led the operation, Sgt Major 838 Hj Abd Hakim Hj Abd Hamid, most of the offenders were caught driving their vehicles with license plates that had smaller numbers than the standard size, illegally installed, oversize exhaust pipes, as well as no rear side mirrors.

Most of the traffic offenders comprised young adults, who were issued with compoundable summons, commented Sgt Major Hj Abd Hakim. The operation also found some road users who had illegally tinted their vehicles and were ordered to remove them on the spot.

The operation's purpose was to make road users more aware of the rules and regulations, detect any criminal activities and take action against traffic offenders.

During the roadblock, police personnel checked vehicles on their road tax, use of safety belt, tinted cars and other illegal modifications. About 400 vehicles were inspected in the operation to ensure safety.

The Belait patrols also wished to let the public know that roadblock operations would be carried out continuously and speed traps will be installed in the near future near the district's highways. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
