Cigarette Smuggler Fined

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 47-year-old Indonesian man was fined $300 or two weeks' jail in default after pleading guilty to possessing prohibited goods.

Customs prosecuting officer Pg Abdullah Pg Hj Matahir told the court that the defendant Masjudi Makdor was apprehended by Customs Preventive Officers during a raid at a restaurant in Kg Sg Tilong on November 17, after a tipoff was received.

Personnel found 17 packets of Sampoer na Menthol's and two packets of Sampoerna Red's without the written Brunei health warnings on its packages.

The defendant said that he bought the cigarettes from Kuala Lurah and that they were for his personal use. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
