Filipino Couple Arrested For Overstaying

Bandar Seri Begawan - The immigration enforcement team who were carrying out a routine inspection operation apprehended a Filipino woman whose visit pass has expired on October 1, this year at a rented room in Kg Anggrek Desa yesterday.

Thirty-two-year-old Caroline Dela Cruz Estrella was found chatting with two of her friends outside the rented room when law enforcers approached her and asked for her documents.

Following her arrest, the team proceeded to another rented room at Spg 91, Kg Anggrek Desa to apprehend her husband,

Roderick S Estella, 29, whose visit pass had also expired on the same date as his wife. Roderick was also found sitting and chatting outside the rented room with three of his friends when immigration enforcement personnel approached him. The couple, if found guilty of violating Section 15 (1) of the Immigration Act, could face a compound of $400.

Yesterday's inspection operations carried out by a team of five immigration enforcement officers led by Senior Immigration Officer, Md Zaini Hj Talip, were part of the many routine inspections carried out to track down illegal immigrants or illegal immigration activities in the country.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
