Sungai Liang Getaway
By NAJ

Seria - The beautiful Sungai Liang Recreational Park, which is under the care of the Brunei Forestry Department, is situated about 70km from Bandar Seri Begawan via the Muara-Tutong Highway or about 20km from Seria.

The park, which is open to public, is an ideal spot for a weekend getaway or for a school holiday sojourn.

One of the attractions is the Gana River that starts from the highlands and flows along the park, ending near the Sungai Liang junction.

The river feeds the main swimming pool and another fishing pond at the Sungai Liang Recreational Park. Sometimes, during the rainy season, the water floods part of the highlands.

The park, which is part of a forest reserve, has a public picnic area. Visitors can also stroll along the trail provided to take a closer look at the flora and fauna the park has to offer.

Trees are clearly name and tagged making the walk an educational one. It is also an ideal place to carry out forest research and studies.

There are resting huts provided throughout the park. One of the popular rest stops is the floating hut, which is perched above a fishpond. Here you can rest while watching the fish swim underneath.

Many flock to the park to enjoy watching deer and mouse deer in their natural habitat. The animals are left to roam freely in their natural habitat within a caged area, where the public can enjoy watching their antics.

The park is opened daily from lam till 6pm. While there, public members are urged to upkeep the natural habitat and to not do anything that may spoil or harm it. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
