Closing Of Overseas Youth
Programme

Begawan - The Overseas Youth Programme of Brunei Darussalam and
Singapore, the 13' Series, ended yesterday at a restaurant in Serusop.
The programme, developed in 1999, was
initiated by Outward Bound School, Singapore in collaboration with the
CoCurricular Education Department, Brunei's Ministry of Education.
The closing ceremony's guest of
honour was Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture,
Youth and Sports, Hj Sumadi Sukaimi, who also presented prizes.
In his speech, he congratulated the
participants for completing their challenging course. He added that
the programme would hopefully continue and also congratulated its
organisers.
The 12-day programme's activities
gave participants opportunities to do new things. It was divided into
three different phases, comprising the adventure challenge,
mini-community and cultural visit projects.
In his thank-you speech, Mohd
SyukriJamil, a representative of the-Bruneian participants, mentioned
that the course has made them more positive, after sharing their
expertise with others, demonstrating independence, unity and
cooperation.
A Singaporean representative, Mr
Kumaraseh, said in his thank-you speech that the programme also among
other things gave them a chance to develop friendships with fellow
participants.
They got to learn and respected each
other's culture and religions through communal activities. The closing
ceremony included a stage show presented by the programme's
participants. --
