Bandar Seri Begawan - The Overseas Youth Programme of Brunei Darussalam and Singapore, the 13' Series, ended yesterday at a restaurant in Serusop.

The programme, developed in 1999, was initiated by Outward Bound School, Singapore in collaboration with the CoCurricular Education Department, Brunei's Ministry of Education.

The closing ceremony's guest of honour was Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Hj Sumadi Sukaimi, who also presented prizes.

In his speech, he congratulated the participants for completing their challenging course. He added that the programme would hopefully continue and also congratulated its organisers.

The 12-day programme's activities gave participants opportunities to do new things. It was divided into three different phases, comprising the adventure challenge, mini-community and cultural visit projects.

In his thank-you speech, Mohd SyukriJamil, a representative of the-Bruneian participants, mentioned that the course has made them more positive, after sharing their expertise with others, demonstrating independence, unity and cooperation.

A Singaporean representative, Mr Kumaraseh, said in his thank-you speech that the programme also among other things gave them a chance to develop friendships with fellow participants.

They got to learn and respected each other's culture and religions through communal activities. The closing ceremony included a stage show presented by the programme's participants.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
