By Liza Mohd

Bandar Seri Begawan - A ceremony was held yesterday morning to mark the handover of a newly completed Sungai Liang Islamic cemetery site from the Public Works Department (PWD) to the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The Islamic cemetery, which can accommodate 1,000 cemetery plots, was handed over first to Head of Senior Technical Assistant PWD Mohd Julaihi bin Hj Kikil by representatives of Seng Choi Construction Sdn Bhd.

The PWD handed it to Belait Chief Religious Officer Pg Hj Yunus bin Pg Hj Mohd Salleh on behalf of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The hilltop cemetery covers an area of 3.2 hectares. Clearing works started in March 2003 for the convenience of Belait District residents.

The Islamic cemetery, named Tanah Perkuburan AR-RIDHWAN Sungai Liang, started operating since yesterday for Mukim Liang and its surrounding areas.

The Islamic Cemetery Site Head Unit said users should maintain and protect the cleanliness of the area, and use it in a more systematic way.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
