DBP Joins Jakarta Book Fair

Begawan - To promote local publications and writers to the
international readers' arena, Dewan Bahasa dan Pu'taka Brunei (DBP)
participated in the Indonesia Book Fair from Dec 7 to 11 at the
Jakarta Convention Centre.
Themed "The Rise of Aceh," it was
organised by the Indonesian Publishers Union (IKAPI) and Dyandra and
declared open by Indonesia Vice President Muhammad Yusuf Kalla last
Dec 7, said Siti Zaleha Hj Kaprawi, DBP public relations officer.
Some 150 book distributors,
publishers, importers, writers and illustrators as well as those in
education and print media industry shared the exhibition area to
promote and sell their own publications.
The book festival aimed to promote
the reading culture amongst the communities and to make readers aware
of new available publications.
Brunei Darussalam through DBP was
paired with the book booths of Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
"Apart from the public, DBP books
received attention from many countries including the Library of
Congress which distributes books published in America through Holland.
"Singaporeans were also clients of
books published by DBP," she said.
She added DBP books on general
subject were purchased as well as dictionaries and magazines. --
