Bandar Seri Begawan - To promote local publications and writers to the international readers' arena, Dewan Bahasa dan Pu'taka Brunei (DBP) participated in the Indonesia Book Fair from Dec 7 to 11 at the Jakarta Convention Centre.

Themed "The Rise of Aceh," it was organised by the Indonesian Publishers Union (IKAPI) and Dyandra and declared open by Indonesia Vice President Muhammad Yusuf Kalla last Dec 7, said Siti Zaleha Hj Kaprawi, DBP public relations officer.

Some 150 book distributors, publishers, importers, writers and illustrators as well as those in education and print media industry shared the exhibition area to promote and sell their own publications.

The book festival aimed to promote the reading culture amongst the communities and to make readers aware of new available publications.

Brunei Darussalam through DBP was paired with the book booths of Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

"Apart from the public, DBP books received attention from many countries including the Library of Congress which distributes books published in America through Holland.

"Singaporeans were also clients of books published by DBP," she said.

She added DBP books on general subject were purchased as well as dictionaries and magazines.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
