Islamic Financial Industry
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - In line with the nation's aspiration to contribute to
the development of the Islamic financial industry - especially in the
innovative and fast growing area of Islamic financial planning - a
seminar will be held tomorrow and Sunday at the Songket Ballroom,
Rizqun International Hotel, The Mall in Gadong.
Entitled Islamic Financial Planning
Week (BIFPW), the event is organised by HCB Consultancy Services and
sponsored by Islamic Bank of Brunei (IBB) and its related Takaful
companies.
It will be officiated by Minister of
Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Major General (Rtd) Dato Awg Hj
Mohammad.
At the seminar some six working
papers will be delivered while a forum will be held on Saturday
afternoon with panels from HCB and IBB.
With the majority of the Islamic
financial institution in Brunei having the most number of trained
Islamic financiers in the area of Islamic Financial Planning, it has
been proposed for the event to be organised annually.
Organiser
said the launch or endorsement of this seminar as an annual Brunei
event will definitely transform the image of the country as a
potential Islamic Finance Research - and Development Centre.
"BIFPW willbe an excellent training
ground for the local Islamic financial institution to host such an
event for locals and thereafter plan for the hosting of an
international financial conference in this fast growing area of
interest - namely Islamic Financial Planning," said a spokesperson.
He said the objectives of the BIFPW
are to educate the public on the need to plan their finances, share
the Islamic stance on financial planning, conduct an annual survey on
gauging the financial literacy rate of the participants, inform public
on the availability of trained financial planners in the area of
Islamic financial planning, share tactics on debt management and share
available Islamic financial solutions.
The event will be one-day public
seminar on Saturday with personal financial counselling on Sunday to
be targeted for youths in high school, college and university students
as well as adult segments like housewives, retirees and civil
servants, he added. --
