Begawan - ‘Syair Perang Kastila Sebuah Ristaan' was a definite
winner during the Poetry on History Writing Competition yesterday.
Winning the hearts of the judges, the beautiful piece ensured Pg Hj
Aji Pg Hj Pg Hj Md Tahir emerged as the first honorary prize winner.
Organised
by the Language and Literature Bureau, the contest saw Dyg Hjh Masti
Hj Ahmad ranking in second place with 'Syair Awang Alak Betatar' and
Awg Hj Masri Hj Idris in third place with 'Syair Dam Penglima.'
Pg Hj Aji was awarded a $1,500 cash
prize, while Dyg Hjh Masti and Awg Hj Masri returned home with $1,250
and $1,000 respectively.
Meanwhile, $750 cash prizes were
awarded to consolation prize winners Dyg Hjh Shaharah Dato Paduka Hj
Abd Wahab, Awg Hj Romzi Hj Hidup and Awg Hj Kiflee Tarsat.
Officiated by the Acting Permanent
Secretary of Culture, Youth and Sports Awg Hj Sumadi Sukaimi, the
function also entailed presentation of prizes to the winners of the
Picture-Story Book Writing Competition 2005.
Here, the judges awarded Dyg Hjh
Ainah Muhamad as the first honorary prize winner, followed by Dyg
Jijah Hj Timbol @ Abd Rahman. They both received cash prizes of $1,500
and $1,000 respectively.
Awg
Musdi Awg Moksin emerged as third place winner earning himself $750,
while five consolation winners received $500 each.
The Poetry Writing Competition saw
the participation of 27 poetry manuscripts, while the Picture Story
Book
Writing competition drew 108 entries
of which only 76 manuscripts were selected.
The Language and Literature Bureau
hopes that such competitions will act as an arena for participants to
work on their written masterpiece on top of sharpening their talents
in writing through creativity. --
