Minor Oil Spill In Seria River

Seria - A minor oil spill occurred in the river along Jalan Utara F I0 Seria causing the road to be closed from Sam yesterday morning until late afternoon.

Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd confirmed that a pin hole oil leak was detected on its eight inches Rasau to SCOT (Seria Crude Oil Terminal) pipeline at about 12.30am yesterday morning at the Seria area.

BSP stated that the leak had resulted in silvery oil sheen and patches of emulsion in Sungai Seria but assured that the incident does not pose any health risk to the public.

According to the police, a report was received on the oil spill requiring police assistance to close the road for safety reasons.

BSP had mobilised the Emergency Coordination Centre as well as on-site incident management team to repair the pipeline leak and contain the oil sheen off Sungai Seria.

Members of the public have been urged not to get alarmed over the incident as BSP said it will monitor the situation closely. The Seria River is one of the popular fishing spots in Belait District.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
