Worker Fined $700 For Stealing From Thai Colleague

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday fined a 22year-old Empire Hotel and Country Club employee $700 and ordered him to settle a compensation of BND$200 and RM$100.

He settled the fine and compensation. Mohammad Hasnan bin Hashim pleaded guilty to stealing money from a Thai national colleague. PO Christopher Ng told the court that the defendant occasionally stayed with his girlfriend at the Empire staff - housing in Kg Rimba and that the Thai woman lives with her.

In December, last year, the defendant was in the house and went to the victim's room to search for a remote control for the TV when he stumbled upon a red box in the room.

He opened it and took the money which he claimed has since been used to buy personal items.

The victim who was on leave in her hometown only discovered the theft when she returned.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
