Creative Arts
By Grace Jiu & Azaraimy HH
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Around 55 Asean talents in the fields of music,
dance, visual arts, creative writing and photography will converge_ in
Brunei Darussalam to participate in the Asean Youth Camp.
Brunei will be represented by 10
participants and the other nine Asean countries will each send five
youth participants to the camp. It will take place next year from
January 10 to 22 carrying the theme `Adhesion: Water and The Arts'.
Water is taken as an artistic element
as the emergence of most civilisations and cultures could be boiled
down to water, where settlements were first established at river banks
and the like. Participants' sources of inspiration in their creative
works will include Bruneian landmarks such as 'Kampong Ayer' or the
Water Village, and the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre in Seria. The
public can look forward to the showcase of the Asean Youth Camp's
creative output during the Camp Bazaar to be held at The Mall.
The objectives of the Asean Youth
Camp are to foster a wider exchange of ideas among the youth of Asean
countries and thereby attain greater understanding and friendship. It
is also to strengthen artistic and personal ties among young artists
from different disciplines of art and to promote effective sharing
networking and understanding ofthe local culture of each Asean country
that will help evolve a consciousness of the Asean culture.
It is also aimed at holding a
cultural camp in art, music, writing, and media among the Asean youth
that would encourage artistic creativity and expression using
indigenous themes and natural materials found in the environment.
Apart from that, it also aims to
encourage interaction, discussion, exchange and express ideas among
the youth with topics related to the arts and its connection to nature
and the environment and to establish a network among the youth in the
Asean region.
This is to enhance their role as an
artist, musician, writer and as well as future cultural leader in the
preservation and promotion of their environment through art in their
own country and the whole Asean region.
A working committee consultative
meeting for the Asean Youth Camp on logistics, clarification of roles
and duties of officers was held yesterday morning at the conference
room of the Department of Co-Curriculum Education, Ministry of
Education chaired by Mohd Abdoh bin Hj Awg Damit, the Camp Director.
