Winners Of Brunei Marathon

Bandar Seri
Begawan – Matolo Benjamin Mutua was the winner in the 42km Open
men category of the V Brunei Marathon 2005. Mutua walked away with a
prize money of US$30,000 at a ceremony at the International Convention
Centre in Berakas on Sunday night.
Finished closely behind Mutua was
Simon Kibiwott who won US$15,000 and Wilson Kipsongok Chepkwony
(US$7,500).
"The run was great and I am feeling
good," said Mutua after receiving the trophy.
"The race started with flat road but
it became more challenging and tough when reaching the hill area,"
added Mutua who hoped to be back again next year.
Ann Jelagal was the winner of the
42km Open Ladies category and won herself US$30,000. Mary Akor
finished second place and third was Sharla May Hall.
Sefli
AnakAhar emerged winner in the Brunei Class men category (42km). Sefli
finished 5`h place in the overall standing and won himself B$10,000.
Zulkifle Liman finished second place and claimed prize money of
B$6,500.
Third was Chung Kwei Ming winning
B$4,500.
In the Ladies (Brunei) category,
Jenny Tan staved offthe challenge of other runners to bag the top
prize of B$10,000 followed by Dk Siti Khatamazzariah and Tan Siew
King.
In the 21 km Open (men) category,
Geoffrey Kiplagat Terer was the winner and richer by US$10,000. Second
was Geoferey S. Kipngeno (US$6,500) and third was Michael Kiprop
Karonei (US$4,000).
Triyaningsih
finished the winner of the ladies category while lenajemutai Cheruiyot
and Susan Kurui claimed the second and third place respectively.
In the Brunei class men category
(21km), Enderow Pagun (B$5,000) crossed the finish line to emerge
winner.
Harman Shah Awg Hj Tapa (B$3,500) and
Mohd Sofian Serudin (B$3,000) claimed the second and third place
respectively.
Mariam
Agong was the winner in the Ladies (Brunei) category, while Nuriyenny
Muslim and Normaswani Singok were in second and third place
respectively._
In the Veteran men (18km),
Jirattigarn Boonma finished as the winner and was richer by B$3,000.
Kevin Hill (B$2,000) was second followed by Wah Kwai (B$1,500).
Marie Therese Juliette Danielle
emerged as the winner of the Veteran ladies category followed by Kan
Kusuwan and Hasny Salagan.
Hj
Mohd Syahmi Hj Mohd Issrah was the winner of the Student (men)
category after running a distance of 13km and claimed B$2,000. Ak Mohd
Aizuddin Pg Abd Razak and Dharam Bahadur Gurung won the second place
and third place respectively.
Nursyairah
bte Ali emerged as winner in the Student (ladies) category followed by
Noorussa'adah bte Muhammad and Nurzaidah bte Mazlan.
The IS' Brunei Marathon organised by
Excellence Event Management covered the areas from the Empire Hotel
and Country Club, Tungku Beach, Universiti Brunei Darussalam,
Shahbandar Hills, Jerudong Park & Country Club and Jerudong Park
Playground.
On hand to present the prizes to the
winners of the Veteran and Student categories was Pehin Major General
(R) Dato Awg Hj Mohammad bin Hj Daud, the Minister of Culture, Youth
and Sports.
The Minister of Industry and Primary
Resources Pehin Dato Dr Awang Haji Ahmad bin Haji Jumat gave away the
prizes to the other winners.
Also present were Dato Paduka Haji
Hamdilah, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Primary Resources,
Sheikh Jamaluddin, the Director of Promotion, Industries & Brunei
Tourism, and Shalini Warrier, the CEO of Standard Chartered Bank.
