Rapist Jailed Three Years And Gets Two Strokes

Bandar Seri Begawan – A 20-year-old man recently convicted of raping his aunt and two other counts was sentenced to three years in jail and two strokes of whipping yesterday.

The High Court in sentencing the defendant took into account the defendant's age and that the defendant was orphaned at a young age and had no parental guidance.

The court earlier gave the defendant three years' jail and two strokes of caning for raping the victim who was below 14 years of age.

The charge of outraging the modesty of the victim brought one year's jail with one stroke of whipping.

The defendant was given two years' jail for committing carnal knowledge on the victim.

However, the jail sentences were ordered to run concurrently, whereas the whippings were to be noncumulative. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
