BSM Stays As Market Leader

Begawan - Compared with 2004, Brunei Shell Marketing achieved
an increase of 4% on sales of its petroleum products this year, thanks
to the stable growth of the country's economy.
This was stated by Pehin Dato Paduka
Hj Abd Rahman Bin Haji Ibrahim, Minister of Finance II, in his
capacity as the Chairman of the Board of Director of Brunei Shell
Marketing Sdn Bhd, during its annual Malam Pemasaran last Saturday.
Still maintaining its position as the
market leader in the competitive lubricant market, the Minister of
Finance II said the success of BSM this year can only be achieved with
hard work and effort of the entire staff of Brunei Shell Marketing and
distributors of its products.
The chairman recapped a number of BSM
landmark successes and achievements for BSM this year.
He said on the safety aspect, BSM has
achieved four continuous years of operation with zero lost time
injury. However, during the year, there were a number of unsafe
incidents involving a few petroleum tankers and petrol stations.
In connection with the incidents, a
numbers of safety awareness initiative and measures have been
launched, including the unveiling of 20 brand new petroleum road
tankers and the launch of the national road safety campaign for road
users, he said.
Touching on the administration of
petrol stations, he revealed the second exemplary petrol station
programme has progressed smoothly.
The number of petrol stations
recognised as exemplary petrol stations is on the rise. This has shown
the increased commitment of petrol stations to polish up their
administrative system.
On its contribution to society, BSM
has continuously supported and is actively involved in the tsunami
donation, the Shell Rimula basketball tournament, and Helix Walk A
Hunt to raise contributions for charitable organisations.
The guest of honour urged BSM staff
to be proactive and responsive in overcoming challenges posed by the
everchanging environment.
Also present at the celebration, with
the theme Our Land, were Pg Hj Yasmin Bin Pg Hj Mohamad, BSM managing
director, and senior government officials.
Long services awards were given to 12
recipients. BMC (Commercial) awards for the highest sales of
lubricants in 2005 were presented to NBT (Brunei), Kien Sing (Tan)
Autopart Co and Galfar Sdn Bhd.
In the BMG (Shell Gas) Awards, the
best distributors league programme awards went to Syarikat Perniagaan
Melayu, Syarikat Hj Haris Bongsu and Overseas Agency. The Best LPG
Regulator award went to Syarikat Perniagaan Melayu.
The guests were entertained by local
artists and the famous comedian from Singapore, Phua Chu Kang. --
