Contraband Smuggler Gets Nine Months
By Malai FadleyRizal

Bandar Seri Begawan - A Thai man was sent to jail for nine months after failing to pay fines of B$9,000 for the offences of conveying uncustomed goods.

Narongrit Phala, 42, pleaded guilty to knowingly conveying 192 bottles of White Wine in a car registered BE7868 on December 8.

A second charge stated that the defendant knowingly conveyed 120 kilogrammes of Allana Meat on the same occasion.

Customs Prosecuting Officer Pg Abdullah Pg Hj Matahir told the court that the defendant was driving the said vehicle along Jalan Gadong when policeofficers conducting a roadblock at the area stopped the defendant's car.

A search on the vehicle led to the discovery of the uncustomed items, and the defendant was detained. The court yesterday ordered for the goods to be forfeited to the State.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
