Local Man Convicted Of Raping Aunt

Bandar Seri Begawan - A local man aged 20 is currently being held in remand after being convicted yesterday of having committed rape, outraging the modesty and carnal intercourse against the order of nature, respectively, while he was 16 years old in 2001.

The victim is the defendant's aunt, who was aged below 14 at the time the offence was committed on the night of December 4, 2001.

DPP Pg Jasmine Pg Hj Bahrin conducted the trial before Dato Steven Chong in the High Court.

The defendant is facing a penalty of a maximum thirty years in jail with whipping for the first charge and imprisonment which may extend to five years with whipping for the second charge.

The third charge stated that the defendant faces a penalty of imprisonment for ten years and is also liable to a fine. The defendant will be produced in the High Court for sentencing on December 12.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
