All-Systems-Go For Water

Begawan - Water supply will be upgraded with the implementation
of all projects under the 8NDP to meet demand in Brunei/Muara, Tutong
and throughout the nation till 2015.
Two main water supply projects
include construction for raw water intake, firstly, the ongoing
construction of a pump station and main pipe channel installation in
Kuala Abang and secondly, the construction of a new $17.8-million
water treatment plant at Bukit Barun which will take 20 months from
April 2005 to be completed in 2006 mid-November.

Suhaimi Hj Ghafar, disclosed this at yesterday's ground-breaking
ceremony for a raw water treatment plant at Bukit Barun.
The ceremony was graced by the
Minister of Development, Pehin Dato Paduka Awg Hj Abdullah. Also
present were Deputy Minister Dato Paduka Dr Hj Mat Suny and permanent
secretaries.

Hj Suhaimi highlighted that the scope of work at the new treatment
plant in Bukit Barun including civil engineering work, mechanical,
electrical, construction of office and machine control room, splitter
chamber, process tank and a building to store chemicals and chlorine
as well as a road linking the present and new plant.
Raw water from Sungai Tutong is
treated in this Bukit Barun plant through a main pipe channel from raw
water intake station in Kuala Abang.
The raw water is processed and
treated at this plant before being supplied to Brunei/Muara and Tutong.
The new plant is able to process 60 million litres of raw water a day,
boosting 218 million litres a day to 278 million litres of clean water
a day. --
