Farewell, Ceremony For SYC-Bound
Students To Singapore

Begawan - Ten pre-university students from various government
schools have been selected to represent the Sultanate for this year's
Sunburst Youth Camp (SYC) 2005 held in Singapore from Dec 11 to 19.
The group of students will be joining
other students from the host country Singapore, as well as Thailand,
Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines.
A farewell prayer and a flag
handing-over ceremony were held yesterday at SM Pengiran Anak Puteri
Hajah Masna at Lambak Kanan. Present as the guest of honour was Dr
Haji Mahali bin Momin, Deputy Director of Schools at the Department of
Schools, Ministry of Education
Also in attendance were the Principal
of SM PAP Hajah Masna, Dyg Gazala bte Abdullah and her deputies, Hjh
Fatimah bte Hj Johari, Hj Markandi bin Hj Kuris and Hjh Salmah bte Hj
Ahmad as well as teachers and parents.
The students will be accompanied by
Cikgu Syed Rozman bin Hj Syed Abd Rahim. During the ceremony
yesterday, the students performed several cultural dances
choreographed by their accompanying teacher, Cikgu Syed Rozman, to be
staged during the cultural night at the end of the programme.
The SYC camp is a fully sponsored
programme and part of Singapore Technology Endowment Programme (STEP)
since 1999, which aims to support educational opportunities for youths
and children in different regions.
Throughout the eight-day programme,
the students will be divided and share rooms with students from other
countries, in order to forge friendship among the participants. --
