$67,600 Presented To Muslim
Converts For Haj Pilgrimage

Begawan - The Muallafs (Muslim converts) in Brunei is always
being cared for by the Islamic Religious Council and other
authorities.
The council assists coverts through
Zakat as well as gifts and allowances.
After a selection process and
inter-views, 13 have been selected to perform this year's Haj.
B$13,000 was presented yesterday by
the council's Secretary, Pg Hj Bahrom Pg Hj Bahar, to the 13 converts
as pocket money for their pilgrimage.
Each recipient was also presented
with fares to per-form the Haj and $3,500 of it was from His Majesty
the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, while another
$4,200 came from the Islamic Religious Council.
The total amount of money presented
yesterday was $67,600. It was an annual project of the council and the
first group of Haj pilgrims will leave the country for Mecca on
December 15.
A Doa Selamat was also read to bless
the travellers. Present at the ceremony were various members of the
community, officers from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, as well as
other invited guests. --
