Red-Handed In Shopping Complex
By Azaraimy HH
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Two Filipino women caught in violation of Immigration
laws were apprehended yesterday while at work at a supermarket in
Gadong.
Natasha Arpon Pandang, 27, had been
deported and banned from entering the country in September this year,
under Chapter 15(1) (1) of the Immigration Act. She had been using the
name Maggie Pagtacuan Martin, born July 28, 1967 at that time.
Pandang
and her friend, Sharifa Sangkula Lim,-26, were caught during a routine
Immigration check conducted by six immigration officers, who were led
by senior officer Sabtu bin Hj Alim.
The duo was caught while working at a
women's beauty product and food shop at the supermarket.
According to a statement from the
Enforcement Division of the Immigration
Department, Pandang tried to elude
officers who were approaching her by pretending to be a customer.
She reportedly stood up immediately
from a bench when she spotted immigration officers and acted as if she
was a customer trying to buy something at the shop.
Evidence gathered showed there was a
written record of her working at the shop. Her name had been written
on the record book cover.
Pandang's
case was forwarded to the court to be tried under Chapter 36 of the
Immigration Act Section 17. If found guilty, she could be jailed for
not less than a year and fined $6 000.
Her arrest is the result of
information gathered by the Intelligence Unit, Enforcement Division of
the Immigration Department.
Meanwhile, Lim was charged a compound
of $600 for working while holding a visit pass. --
