Malaysian Fined For Conveying Petrol

Bandar Seri Begawan - A Malaysian man was fined B$1,000 or two months' jail in default after pleading guilty to conveying uncustomed goods before the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Teo Boon Han@Muhammad Farhan bin Abdullah, 32, a Muslim convert, bought 119.36 litres of petrol from Bangar, Temburong petrol station and tried to bring the uncustomed goods back home in Limbang on December 1, according to Customs Prosecuting Officer Pg Abdullah Pg Hj Matahir.

Senior Magistrate Hj Abdullah Soefri further heard that police officers acting on a tip-off managed to stop the defendant at Ujung Jalan, Temburong near the ferry boarding area that day and found the goods in the defendant's car.

The defendant's car was ordered by the court to be returned to the defendant while the uncustomed petrol worth B$45 was forfeited to the state.

The prosecution yesterday further clarified that gasoline is a restricted export item under Schedule 4 of the Customs Enactment1954.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
