Two Plead Guilty Over Fake
Currencies

Begawan - A 30-year-old local woman charged with using two
counterfeit currency notes, abetting her friend to use forged notes
and having in possession two fake notes, will be sentenced on December
19 after she pleaded guilty to the charges in the High Court
yesterday.
The defendant, Rinny Suqarni Binti Hj
Mahmud, 30, will appear for the sentencing together with her friend,
Hj Maswadi bin Pungut, 24, who also pleaded guilty to the charge of
using a counterfeit Brunei $500 note.
The woman first pleaded guilty to
using two Brunei $500 notes with serial nos B/l 1001303 and B/I
1001130 as genuine at a bank in Serusop, while knowing or having
reason to believe the same to be counterfeit.
The defendant also pleaded guilty to
abetting her friend, Hj Maswadi, by handing over a counterfeit $500
note, bearing serial number B/1 1001062, for use. Both charges were
committed on November 17 and 18, 2005 respectively.
It carries an imprisonment term which
may extend to 15 years and a fine.
The defendant is also facing another
10 years' imprisonment with fine after she pleaded guilty to having in
possession two counterfeit $500 notes with serial numbers B/11001572
and B/1 1001230, with the intention to use them as genuine currencies.
The offence was committed on November
29. Hj Maswadi is facing 15 years' imprisonment and a fine after he
pleaded guilty to using a $500 note bearing serial number B/I 1001062
as genuine at Syarikat Illham Jaya in Kampong Rimba on November 18
this year.
The case was heard before Judge
