Brunei for Asean Para Games

Brunei para athletes for the Manila
meet.
Brunei will be represented by 23 para
athletes for the 3rd Asean Para Games in Manila, Philippines from Dec
14-20.
The Minister of Culture, Youth and
Sports. Pehin Major General (R) Dato Awang Haji Mohammad bin Hj Daud
handed over the national flag to the contingent at the DiGadong Hall,
Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports at a ceremony yesterday.
Also present were Dato Paduka Awg Hj
Yakub bin Abu Bakar, Deputy Minster of Culture, Youth and Sports and
Datin Hjh Adina bte Othman, Director of Community Development
Department.
"The athletes were chosen based on
their capabilities, commitment and discipline proving that a
disability is not a hindrance for a person to participate in sports,"
said Pehin Awg Hj Mohammad.
He also said that during the 8th Far
East and South Pacific Games in Busan, South Korea, Brunei emerged
12th out of 44 countries and at the 2nd Asean Para Games in Hanoi,
Vietnam, Brunei were placed sixth out of 10 countries.
The minister urged the Brunei
contingent to give their best efforts and always maintain the nation's
good name.
Meanwhile, Henry Wanyoike from Kenya,
a world multi-gold medallist in long distance running who is visually
impaired gave an inspirational speech to the Manila-bound athletes.
