Bandar Seri Begawan - Local climber Mohd Denos Jaya did Brunei proud when he was named "The Most Promising Climber" in the final leg of the Southeast Asia (SEA) Climbing Circuit in Manila, the Philippines, December 3-4.

All member countries - Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Singapore - participated in the final leg, a first in the history of the event.

The SEA Climbing Circuit, annually hosted in rotation by the six member countries, is aimed at promoting climbing for the development of youths in sports and physical activities.

Next year, the competition will be hosted by Jakarta, Indonesia.

The president of Brunei Sport Climbing Federation (BSCF) thanked the Department of Youth and Sports for supporting the association's participation in the circuit. -

`Brunei is still new to the sports and apart from winning the special award, `Most Promising Climber', the winners in the bouldering and speed test categories mainly comprised climbers from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia," she said.

She added that the federation is currently looking for climbing enthusiasts to join the club as well as to compete in the regional circuit.

"Interested climbers can contact me at 877 4777 or the vice president at 871 0360. They can also e-mail us at bscf@il.com.bn," she said.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
