Brunei DPMM FC Fight Back TO Share
The Spoil
By Dannie Abu Basrah
Bandar Seri
Begawan - It was a nervous start for Brunei DPMM FC in their
opening Group A match of the 2005/2006 Malaysian Premier League as
they had to come back from a goal down to share the honours in a 1 -1
with Terengganu.
New signing Rodrigo Antonio Lombardo
Tosi proved to be the local hero, scoring four minutes from time on
his debut while the woodwork denied him the winner in injury time when
his header rebounded off the bar.
Coach Buketa Ranko opted to play a
3-5-2 formation that saw Sairol Hj-Sahri and Hj Muhd Subhi Abdillah
playing as wingbacks while leading the offensive line were Fadlin
Galawat and Tosi. Goran Vusanovic was given a free rein in midfield,
while Rosmin Hj Md Kamis had the responsibility to captain the side.
Brunei DPMM FC kicked off the game
but quickly lost possession as the visitors pushed forward and hit the
side netting in the very first minute. Four minutes later, Tosi was
presented with a good chance in the penalty box but miskicked Sairol's
low cross.
In the 24th minute, Fadlin was
brilliantly put through by his Brazilian strike partner but
disappointingly shot directly at the goalie.
Despite the early pressure from the
home team, the visitors settled down better and ended the first half
threateningly, requiring Hj Muhd Subhi to clear from the line twice,
to keep Brunei DPMM FC in the game.
Six minutes into the second half,
Subhi saved Brunei DPMM FC once again as the visitors went on the
attack. Brunei DPMM FC goalie Mohd Wardun Yusof denied Terengganu the
lead-in the 59th minute when he saved from Md Nor Farhan Mohd.
Mohd
Saiful Rizal hit a splendid volley at the Terengganu goal in the 63rd
minute but the Terengganu goalie Md Syamsuri Mustafa was up to the
challenge, making a brilliant save.
The deadlock was finally broken in
the 69th minute as the visitors silenced the stadium with a 25-yard
cracker from Rosairil Asrul Matnor.
Stunned by the goal, Brunei DPMM FC
responded immediately, a powerful drive from Fadlin was parried over
the bar by the Terengganu goalie.
With the clock ticking down, Brunei
DPMM FC desperately searched for the equaliser but time and time again
were denied by the heroics of Md Syamsuri.
With four minutes to go however,
Brunei DPMM FC finally had their equaliser, when Tosi unleashing a
fierce shot from 20 yards that was later fumbled by Md Syamsuri into
his own net.
Both teams came close to snatching
the win in the death, a header by Terengganu's Sharlei Lins
Mirandajust missing the target in the 89th minute while Tosi was
denied by the woodwork in injury time. --
