Islamic Dakwah Centre Holds Contests

Bandar Seri Begawan - In conjunction with the Islamic Dakwah Centre's 20-year formation, its committee had lined up various programmes.

The 23rd National Quran Reading, Menghafaz Ayat-Ayat Lazim and Nasyid for Mualaf (Muslim converts) competitions were held yesterday at the Conference Hall of Islamic Dakwah Centre in Kg Pulaie.

Sixteen male and female participants took part in the National Quran Reading and Menghafaz Ayat-Ay at Lazim contests, while four groups from all four districts competed in the Nasyid for Mualaf event.

Attending the ceremony was Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Ustaz Hj Badaruddin Dato Paduka Hj Othman, who also presented the winners with their prizes.

Also in attendance were the Islamic Dakwah Centre's Director, Hjh Zasia Sirin, invited guests and senior officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

In the National Quran Reading male - category, Moksin Karim from Tutong emerged as champion, followed by Muhd Nur Aishamuddin Muhd Hanafi of Tutong District and Hj Mohd Sapami Abdullah from Brunei-Muara in second and third positions respectively.

Nurul Ayunie Abdullah came in first place in the female category, with Hjh Noraine Abdullah and Hjh Julina Abd Wahid from Brunei-Muara in second and third places respectively.

Meanwhile, the Sana'ul Iman N-asyid group from Temburong emerged as champion for the year 2005, followed by Amiratul Mu'minah from Brunei-Muara and Babul Aiman Raja'ah of Tutong in second and third positions respectively. The ceremony ended with a doa selamat. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
