Global Focus Of Insurance Companies Is Stability: GIAB

Bandar Seri Begawan - General Insurance Association of Brunei (GIAB) held an annual dinner at the Season's Restaurant in Centrepoint, Gadong.

More than 100 representatives from various insurance companies under GIAB attended the event.

Also present were officials from the Ministry of Finance, Hjh Nurliati bte Hj Idris, Hjh Saadiah Hj Sidis and Hj Aziz Tuah.

Others guest included representatives from Asia Inc Forum and Sunshine Borneo Tours.

Chairman of GIAB Dorothy Newn, in her opening speech, said despite the collapse of a number of major insurance companies in the United States and Europe in recent years, the global focus on insurance companies was financial stability instead of growth.

She added that the introduction of the Insurance Order to the country in the near future will provide the necessary regulatory framework for such stability domestically.

Newn also said the committee has been organising the East Asian Insurance Conference with all member companies, the Ministry of Finance, Asia Inc Forum and Sunshine Borneo Tours, adding that Brunei will be hosting it for the first time next year, with over 1,000 delegates from around the globe expected to turn up for the event. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
