Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Embassy of Lao People's Democratic Republic on
Saturday night held a reception to commemorate the country's 30th
National Day at the ICC in Berakas.
Attending the event as the guest of
honour was Pehin Dato Seri Paduka Lim Jock Seng, Second Minister of
Foreign Affairs and Trade, along with his spouse, Datin Lim Bee Yong.
The Ambassador of the Lao People's
Democratic Republic Mr. Bounthong Vongsaly in a speech stated that
Laos and Brunei Darussalam established diplomatic relations since July
27, 1993, and opened their respective embassies in the countries'
capitals in 1997.
He also added that since Laos was
admitted and became an Asean member in 1997, the Government of His
Majesty the Sultan has attached a more significant relationship by
providing assistance to Laos in human resources development,
especially to Lao civil servants who have been involved in training
through the technical assistance under the initiative of Asean
integration, and at the same time receiving a number of Lao students
to study for their Master degree at Universiti Brunei Darusalam.
Mr. Bounthong Vongsaly also
expressed, on behalf of Laos' government, his gratitude and heartfelt
thanks to His Majesty the Sultan and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran
Anak Hajah Saleha for their highest and valuable contributions to a
Lao orphanage, a disabled persons rehabilitation centre, Lao Women's
Union, the 10th Asean Summit last November 2004, in Vientiane and
