The Department of Islamic Studies or Jabatan Pengajian Islam (JPI) yesterday organised its annual Family Day at the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers' College (MPUSB) in Jalan Tutong.

Gracing the event as guest of honour was Deputy Minister of Education Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman, who was accompanied by several other senior officials from the ministry.

The day commenced with a Surah al-Fatihah recital, before a welcoming speech was delivered by Director of Islamic Studies Ustazah Hajah Kasmah Hj Siput, the chairperson of the event. Later, a speech was also delivered by the guest of honour.

To enliven the celebration, a 'tausyeh' performance was staged by male teachers from the Belait District. The guest of honour then presented awards and tokens of appreciation to recipients of this year's 'Tokoh Israh.'

The day saw the chief guest watching a demonstration on the use of tablet PCs and touring the stalls erected by schools, colleges and higher institutions that come under JPI.
