Cooperation Among Communities Vital

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Minister of Religious Affairs underscored that as people living together in a community in this nation, we should cooperate, sincerely assist each other to establish peaceful life, respect and understand each other.

Pehin Dato Dr. Hi Md. Lain said this at the get-together ceremony with the Chinese community in Belait District on Friday at the Municipal hall.

He said though there are differences in the life practices based on belief and culture, we as citizens and residents live in peace and harmony and joint strive towards earning a living in a `halal' way and contribute to the development, progress and stability of the nation.

This gathering depicts such harmony and prosperity and strengthens the close relations understanding and respects each other.

In fact, the festive mood of one's race and nationality contributes towards strengthening ties." Pehin Hj Md. Zain added that the Chinese community in Brunei is given an exalted position as they are also decorated with titles such as `Pehin Datu Temanggong? (where its role is as an executive leader for Chinese in Brunei and as a

Sultan's representative to look after the affairs of Chinese in Brunei) and Pehin Kapitan Cina Kurnia Diraja (where his role is to supervise peace among Chinese community in Brunei, besides assisting Pehin Datu Temanggong).

"I purposely mentioned this with an objective to remind us that in our daily life, we have different cultures and beliefs.

And as people living together in a community in this nation, we should cooperate, sincerely assist each other to establish peaceful life, respect and understand each other."

Pehin Bendahari Cina Dato Paduka Onn Siew Siong in his speech said the Chinese community feels that Hari Raya is also like Hari Raya for the Chinese community as "we also visit houses to our Islamic friends".
