Two Caught Smuggling Booze, Dubious Meat

Bandar Seri Begawan - Two permanent residents aged 17 and 40 were caught red handed by the customs prevention officers while smuggling several cartons of alcoholic drinks and dubious meat into the Sultanate last Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off from the public' at around 6.45pm on Thursday, a team of 11 Customs Prevention officers from the Prevention and Intelligence Section of the Customs and Excise Department made a move at a farm area in Kg Junjungan to intercept the suspected smuggling operation.

The Customs Prevention officers were later able to intercept a blue Toyota Kijang at Simpang 1116, Kampong Kilanas, where both men were apprehended.

The officers had been tailing the offenders from the farm area in Kg Junjungan.

The Toyota Kijang was found to have been filled with 30 cartons of 12 bottles of rice wine with 30 per cent alcohol content, 20 cartons of 24 cans of Carlsberg Beer, and five cartons of 30kg of Allana frozen meat.
