Exactly a year of smooth-running but nonetheless hazardous operational activities by staff of a major multinational contractor for Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) Co Sdn Bhd has resulted in the significant safety milestone achievement of 2 Million Manhours without a Total Recordable Case (TRC).

SKSWood Sdn Bhd and their contractor staff received accolades from the Asset Director of BSP, Hj Salleh Bostaman bin Hj Zainal Abidin, who was the guest of honour at a Safety Award presentation ceremony held at BSP's Services Campaign Operations area in Kuala Belait yesterday.

BSP's Asset Director Hj Salleh Bostaman presented the Chairman of SKSWood Sdn Bhd, YAM Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Wadood Bolkiah, with a commemmorative safety plaque and certificate for the significant achievement in safety performance.

In a speech during the safety award presentation, the Managing Director of SKSWood Sdn Bhd, Mr Sandy Campbell, said that good safety does not come by itself but must come through hard work, concentration, observation, intervening when necessary and also leadership by all involved."

Sandy said, "It is an honour for us in SKSWood to receive today's safety award from BSP but more importantly, it is a responsibility. We have set ourselves a standard. It is possible to have a full year without even a cut finger; 2 million manhours; over 100,000 man-days of work; 1,000 tones of fabrication done; 58 offshore campaigns completed, 27,200 offshore journeys made and 960 individual work packs accomplished."

"We have shown what can be achieved but we must maintain our commitment and build on our past performance."

During the safety award, SKSWood's Chairman, YAM Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Wadood Bolkiah, also presented all contractor companies with their safety gifts.

At the peak of the offshore construction and maintenance work programme for BSP, SKSWood employs some 1,000 professional staff and skilled workers. On top of that, about 200-strong workforce are being deployed by SKSWood in the Marine Construction Yard for mostly fabrication activities under the BSP contract work scope.
