Local Poet Wins Literary Prize

Bandar Seri Begawan - Local poet, Pehin Dato Ustaz Hj Yahya or Yahya MS, has been chosen as the recipient of the 4th MASTERA Literary Prize along with T Alias Taib, of Malaysia and A Mustofa Bisri, of Indonesia.

All winners were chosen for their creative literary works entitled of Nyanyian Perjalanan Mencari Diri Dari Muara ke 'Arafat (poem anthology), Pasar Pengalaman (poem anthology), and Lukisan Kaligrafi (short story anthology) respectively.

Prizes were handed over by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Dr Rais Yatim, Minister of Arts, Cultures and Heritage of Malaysia. All winners received RM10, 000 cash, a certificate and a plaque.

The ceremony, held at Hotel Istana on Tuesday night, was attended by several dignitaries, politicians, local writers, scholars and participants of the 4th International Seminar on Southeast Asian Literature.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
