Foundations Laid For New UBD Buildings

Bandar Seri Begawan - By the year 2007, Universiti Brunei Darussalam students will be able to use a new building for the Institute of Medicine and another new building for the Information Communication Technology Centre (ICTC).

The laying of foundation ceremony for the two new buildings took place yesterday morning at the UBD.

The guest of honour was Pehin Dato Awang Haji Abdul Raliman bin Dato Setia Mohamed Taib, the Minister of Education.

Also present were Pehin Dato Dr. Awang Haji Ahmad bin Haji Jumat, the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Pehin Dato Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, the Minister of Communication, Pengiran Dato Dr. Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman, the Deputy Minister of Education, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, the Deputy Minister of Health, Dato Paduka Haji Sheikh Adrian bin Sheikh Haji Mohammad, the Permanent Secretary of Education, Dato Paduka Dr Haji Ismail bin Haji Duraman, the Vice Chancellor of UBD and other senior officials from government agencies.

Costing $9.5 million, the Institute of Medicine building will include administration offices, lecture hall, computers room, laboratories, clinical simulation briefing centre, research laboratories and tutorial rooms.

The building is set to be completed by the end of January 2007. The Information Communication Technology Centre (ICTC) building will cost $17.8 million and is set to be completed by end of July 2007.

Among its state of the art facilities are multimedia labs, graphic design rooms, data centre, computer labs, mini theaters, mini cinema, lecture theatres, exhibition room, language room, seminar room and others. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
