Sultan Receives Outgoing Envoys In Audience

Bandar Seri Begawan - His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday consented to receive separately in audience two outgoing foreign diplomats to Brunei.

The audiences were held at the Istana Nurul Iman. His Majesty first consented to receive in audience Mr Hirubalan V P., the High Commissioner of Republic of Singapore to Brunei.

He had been in the Sultanate since February 5, 2002. His Majesty next consented to receive in audience Mr Christian Bennett, the High Commissioner of Australia to Brunei. He had been in the country since February 16, 2004.

Also present during the audiences was Pengiran Dato Haji Abu Bakar, the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office.

Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and HRH Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah, yesterday hosted a farewell luncheon at the Balai Penghadapan, Bukit Kayangan for the two outgoing High Commissioners to Brunei and their spouses: Mr Hirubalan VP, the High Commissioner of the Republic of Singapore, and Madam Manoranchitham Hirubalan; and Mr Christian David Bennett, the High Commissioner of Australia, and Mrs Kathleen Anne Buckley.

Prior to the luncheon, Their Royal Highnesses granted audiences to Mr Bennett and Mrs Buckley; and Mr and Madam Hirubalan.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
