Biology Association To Hold Third
Congress

Begawan - The Persatuan Biologi Brunei Darussalam (PBioBD) or
Biology Association of Brunei Darussalam will be holding its Third
National Congress on Biology this Sunday, December 4.
The theme of the congress is
"Biodiversity, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics".
The Congress is sponsored by the
Ministry of Development and will be officiated by Dato Paduka Dr Awg
Haji Ismail bin Haji Duraman, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Brunei
Darussalam. Proceedings of the Second National Congress on Biology -
"Issues and Challenges in Biology Education", will also be launched by
the guest of honour.
Two papers on biotechnology,
biodiversity and bioinformatics will be delivered by two invited
scientists from Queensland Department of Primary Industries (QDPI) and
National University of Singapore. Dr Jenny Ovenden, Senior Fisheries
Geneticists from Southern Fisheries Centre, QDPI, Brisbane will talk
about "Biotechnology Protecting Productivity and Biodiversity in
Marine Fishes".
Associate Professor Dr Tan Tin Wee
will deliver his paper on "Bioinformatics" and will also conduct
workshop on the subject in the afternoon.
The Biology Association of Brunei
Darussalam is a non-government-organisation, founded in 2000.
Today, it has attracted almost 400
members consisting mostly of secondary school students. Interested

non-member is $20 for professionals/associates and $10 for students.
