Door-To-Door Pakistani Textile
Salesman Arrested

Begawan - A 30-year-old Pakistani textile merchant who went
from house to house selling his wares was arrested yesterday. He was
given a compound fine of $600 and will be banned from entering the
country.
The Pakistani was caught by two
investigative officers from the enforcement section of the Department
of Immigration who were carrying out a-normal check yesterday at a
house in Lambak Kanan.
According to the man, he had been
conducting his door-to-door business since i998.
He is in violation of Regulation
15(3), which states that a person holding a work pass must be employed
as what is stated in his work pass.
The merchant's work pass states that
he is a shop assistant or salesmen at a local shop. The work pass is
valid till December 14, this year.
During his arrest, he was caught -
selling textile using a station wagon. He was found standing at a
customer's house holding a customer's loan account book. There were
also several textile goods in his car boot.
According to him, he had been
conducting this business since 1998 and got his textiles from a shop
in Kiulap. He kept the profits from his sales, for example from a sale
of $100, he earned a profit of $15.
He also confessed to having paid
$2,300 to his employer for a year to be a guarantor for his work pass.
