Deputy Minister Emphasises Work
Ethics And Strategic Planning
By Helena M. Mahathir
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Civil Service needs to uphold culture and work
ethics, while government ministries should give priority to preparing
a strategic plan to ensure they have a specific direction in playing a
role in nation-building.
This call was made by guest of honour,
Dato Paduka Awang Haji Eusoff Agaki bin Haji Ismail, Deputy Minister
at the Prime Minister's Office, when he officially opened the 2nd
Symposium of Alignment in Civil Services held at the International
Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.
"In this regard, I believe the
Department of Management Services is always prepared to provide its
services in advising any ministry that needs assistance in preparing
their strategic plan.
"All of us are aware that the Civil
Service, as is the case with other countries, continuously goes
through the process of evolution towards improving effectiveness in
playing its role as the facilitators or thinkers for the government,"
said Dato Paduka Awang Haji Eusoff Agaki.
He added, "The Civil Service should
be dynamic in achieving success and be capable of taking positive
steps in reaping the benefits brought by development and changes of
time," he advised.
"This does not only rely on resolute
foundations and regulations, concise work system, processes and
procedure, but also relies heavily on culture and work ethics that is
conducive and of quality at all levels of the government."
Dato
Paduka Awang Haji Eusoff Agaki went on to say that in line with
efforts in achieving success in civil services, the government of His
Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in 2000
has set a vision entitled "Vision of Civil Service in the 21st
Century.
"That vision gives emphasis to the
need for progressive efforts and improvement to be carried out
continuously by every government agency, the need to ensure that civil
service is more efficient, responsive and of quality, the need of
civil services members with morals and ethical, suitable with current
development and challenges as well. as globalisation needs."
He said in the context of "Vision of
Civil Service in the 21st Century", various efforts have been made by
the Department of Management Services to disseminate that vision. And
this includes the "Vision of Civil Service in the 21st Century" DVD,
which is the cooperative product of the department of Management
Services and Syabas Technologies.
This was followed by the launching of
the DVD by the guest of honour, and a short video presentation of the
DVD. The guest of honour also presented a certificate of appreciation
to Sheikh Haji Abas bin Sheikh Haji Mohamad, CEO of Syabas
Technologies Sdn Bhd.
Also present at the ceremony was
Awang Sa Bali bin Hj Abas, Director of Management Services, who is
also the chairman of the 2-day symposium.
In his opening remarks, he said the
symposium would give the opportunity to all ministries to share
various important information, whereby every ministry will also give a
presentation on its alignment issues and strategic plan that will,
among others, cover the vision, mission, aim and strategic tasks.
