SMARTER Brunei Holds Kayaking
Charity Expedition

Begawan – The Society for the Management of Autism Related
Issues - in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER Brunei
Darussalam) yesterday afternoon organised a day-long kayaking charity
expedition at the Serasa Water Sport Complex.
The expedition was intended to drum
up awareness among the public on the existence of autistic children in
Brunei.
At the function, the participants
received their certificates from Pehin Dato Awang Haji Suyoi, the
Acting Minister of Education.
Pehin
also presented a donation raised from the Charity Fund of the Ministry
of Education to SMARTER.
Meanwhile, members of the Society and
more than 50 volunteers from private agencies took part in the
expedition yesterday morning.
The expedition covered a distant of
26 kilometres that marked 26 years of fighting by the Society for
their children whose have autism problem.
The Society also received a donation
amounting to $1,000 from HALLIBURTON.
This year's expedition carried a
theme of 'Odyssey SMARTER, The Next 26 Years'.
The expedition was across seven
different spots between the starting point at Damuan Recreation Park
up to the Serasa Water Sports Complex.
The stopping points were Tamoi Ujong,
Pintu Malim, Dato Gandi, Kampong Serdang, Sungai Bunga, Pangkalan
Sibabau and lastly at Mentiri before reaching the finishing point.
Present to launch the expedition was
Awang Sarbini bin Haji Ali, the Acting Permanent Secretary at the
Ministry of Health.
Such activities were organised to
provide information on autism to the public.
It was also designed to make the
public understand on its role to assist government agency in looking
after children with autism problems as well as to collect donation for
the Brunei SMARTER fund. --
