Parents Told To Nurture Autistic Kids

Kuala Belait – Parents are urged to nurture their autistic children with full attention to help them in their handicap.

The difference between autistic children and disabled kids is that they have their own world and their education needs should start from basic to emotional level through phases.

The SMARTER Association, which came into being in this country, has the aim of assisting parents who have autistic children, to understand more about autistic.

This is because the education needs of the autistic children are much different from normal and disabled children.

Malai Haji Abdullah whose son has been diagnosed since the age of three said the family plays an important role in giving the right education and success would not come so easily if parents fully depend on one special therapy.

Another branch of the Autistic Systematic Disorder (ASD) Centre is now open for parents in the Belait District.

One of the lessons being given at the centre is the visual strategies where children are taught through their own picture.

Parents are also urged to come forward to give education to their autistic children and not to consider this as a burden.

These special children were also not left out in celebrating the feast of Hari Raya Aidil Fitri yesterday. It was the first of its kind to take place at the centre. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
